Dhul-Qarnayn was a king who ruled with deep faith. Allah gave him "the means to everything"—which means he had the best technology, engineers, armies, and wisdom of his time. But instead of sitting on a throne, he traveled across the earth to establish justice.
When they entered the cave, they made a beautiful, desperate prayer asking God for mercy and right guidance (Rashad) from Himself. In response to their absolute trust, God cast a deep, miraculous sleep over them that completely suspended time, protecting them from the tyrant's guards who passed right by. To keep their bodies from decaying, God caused the sun to naturally veer away from the cave’s entrance and systematically turned them from side to side for an astonishing 309 lunar years.
Allah heard his sincere prayer. The whale swam to the shore and gently spit Prophet Yunus out onto the warm sand. Allah grew a special gourd plant over him to protect his skin from the sun. Once he recovered, he returned to Nineveh
